This is the least scientific rating but probably the most accurate nonetheless.
Without further ado, here are the top 5 American figures hated outside the U.S. and particularly in France:
1) George W. Bush (where to start? The guy can’t even speak; the yet-to-be-found of weapons of mass distraction destruction, the war in Irak, …)

2) Lance Armstrong (did he dope or did he dope not? I know this debate gets very heated. At the end of the day, I think most of France don’t buy “it”. Personally, I’m on the fence. But I hope he’s legit cause that makes him a hero, and he inspired a lot of people.)

3) Bernie Madoff (one word: guilty)

4) Angelina Jolie (by the way, when you aren’t jolie, you should not be wearing the name! So, yes, she might be a sex bomb, but tell me: where is her genuine beauty? And don’t come and tell me a peanut allergy did that to her mouth)

5) Ronald McDonald (ultimate symbol of healthy habits and enjoyable moments; who cares if obesity and mal-bouffe are the #1 killer in America!?)

BONUS: Michael Jackson (it does not matter if you’re Black or White, but if you attempt to put children in your bed, we’ll Scream. RIP, Michael, and wherever you are, Heal the World)

If you’re American, did you see it coming?
If you’re from abroad, who else should have made the list?

Yikes. My least faves are 1, 3 and 5. Particularly #1.
#1 it is. At least we agree he was #1 at something
Yes these guys are annoying, but I dislike the Arnold Schwarzeneggers, and Charlie Sheens of America more… But that’s just me.
Hope all is well with you. Long time no chat.
Hey you! Great to see you again!
Actually, the French don’t know much about Charlie Sheen — I guess there are “personalities” that don’t import well. The show is not know in France as far as I know. Maybe because the humor does not translate well?
In any case yes, Schwarzy as we call him could have made the list, except he isn’t US born, so he was not American enough to make the list
#1 – definitely. And I’m in Malaysia!

Yup, #1 is the biggest loser overseas it looks like! And will be for a while! Thanks for stopping by
I would have to say that the list is pretty accurate according to the French!

You should think about writing on the top French people hated in America — now that you know the French so well
Thank you, Barb! Hope your new home country is treating you well, go Auvergne!
I disagree with number 5 – everyone likes to pretend they hate McDonalds, but if they really did, there wouldn’t be tens of thousands of stores worldwide. I personally don’t ever eat at Macdo, but every time I go by one, they’re always filled with French teens & families…
Here’s what wikipedia has to say about it:
So like I said – the French media may like pretend the French hate MacDo, but the numbers say otherwise…
Let’s say the French love to hate McDo. That does not stop a good amount of them from buying and eating the food — though come on, Deluxe potatoes and a beer with your McChicken is a pretty good offer after all — and a definite upgrade vs. what is sold in the US. Yuck.
(While I can’t argue with the numbers overall, I would not make much case about the top grossing store on the Champs Elysees — what is the % of French people eating there, considering it’s one of the most touristy places in the world?)
Thanks for your insight!
